How to tell the recruiter, you picked...
the other job. This has never been an easy one. I interview in tandem, line up as many interviews as I can and weed out as I go. Some finish at the same time, others drag on. I'm in a situation where I have decided that based on a few better leads, I no longer want to be in the running with one business. The recruiter has been extremely flaky the last two weeks but popped up today with travel plans to have me go in for the interview out of state. I really don't want to waste any more of the businesses time and money. I feel like taking the ticket and their time, only to tell them I'm not interested would make them more upset then if I just told them outright. So, how do you word such an email? What's proper etiquette here? I really wouldn' t be all that worried about proper etiquette. Just say that you aren' t interested anymore and you are withdrawing your resume from the running. They have dealt with that a lot I am sure and honestly any recruiter that isn' t happy about you getting a job on your own is not much of a human being Dear Recruiter Person: Thank you for all your time and energy in securing me interviews with Bobcat' s Run Free Animal Shelter. After due consideration, I have come to the conclusion that I do not feel I am the proper fit for this position and would like to withdraw my name from the candidate pool. If another position with this company becomes available in the future which is better suited to my personality as well as my skills and abilities, I would love to discuss it. I am open, as well, to other positions with other companies and look forward to hearing form you regarding any of these so we can discuss my availability for an interview. Sincerely, You really don' t need to mention to her that you have other leads you like better or feel better about. That isn' t really any of her concern. Unless, of course, she provided those leads. And, if it ticks off the recruiter that you have declined the opportunity to interview so much that she decides to drop your name from future consideration. Oh, well. This is your future job and if you don' t feel you fit or could do a proper job amongst the personalities you do not fit well with, that is your perogative. | |
