Recently FiredI was recently fired from my position as network administrator, after being with the company for almost 3 years. I learned the next day from some of the employee' s (who by the way are upset, but they can' t do anything about it) that my ex-boss (she is the VP of Finance) hired the husband of the accounts payable clerk to fill my position. I found out later from the Chief Technology Officer that when my ex-boss took over the position last year from the Chief Financial Officer (he was fired) that my ex-boss tried to get me fired as soon as she took over the position. I had some strong supporters at that time, but those supporters moved on and are no longer around the company. Earlier this year she started firing people who were hired before she was the boss and replacing them with her own people. So I knew that my days were numbered since I was the last remaining pre-ex-boss employees. All the lower level managers, CTO and workers all told me that they are more than happy to give me a good reference. Most of them have told me that I was one of the best network administrators the company has had in years. They liked me because I did not act like some of the previous administrators who were acting like dictators, or who were always too busy. One of the biggest compliments were the network has never run as smoothly and been as operational. Even though I reported to the VP of Finance I tried to keep separate so that the different departments did not look at IT as playing favorites. There was a major distrust of IT before I got there because the various departments looked as IT as being the dog to the VP of Finance. I know this is so common in the business world. I don' t like it, but really nothing one can do to fight such situations. I know nepotism is alive and well. I know that it usually boils more down to "Who you know, not what you know". Which is a shame a lot of times, because a lot of real good talent gets overlooked. I know eventually I will get job interviews and the question will eventually be asked "Why did you leave your last job" or "Why were you let go from your previous position." Thanks for any suggestions. Start with calling the company to see what they will say the reason is. Hopefully, it will be something neutral and then you can say: I was terminated due to a change in management. The new manager wanted to bring in her own staff and I was let go. No muss, no fuss. Don' t ever bellyache on why you were fired. Just tell them what TMSMalley has recommended. In the business world we all know there are some managers who want to hire their own "team" and some people are fired or let go from a company. What counts is your tenture at each job. If it was longer than three years, then you are safe.
Eh, go over her head. And then you have to really think is this job worth the hassels that its tossing your way. Life is way to short for some power, greedy hungry no body to want to run the whole show anyway. Once everyone at this new company see how lousy of a boss she is, the work will pile up from the lack of morality that will be going around the company will get rid of here eventuallly anyway. I would suggest on taking some of the workers along when you leave. Because most companies seem to have a notion that if it wasn't for them attitude going on. You dont' need the added negativity anyway she seems to giving off. I found that most of the time when a new boss is entered the position, they will usually try to get rid of the employee's from the previous person.Ah let it go! | |
