Preliminary AssessmentsHi Everyone, I applied to a job and received an email back asking some preliminary questions. They also had me set up a time to go in and take a DISC Behavioral Study. Has anyone ever taken one of these. Is this a practice that companies are starting to take to pre-screen applicants. I would have to think that they are doing this to see who they want to bring in for an interview based on the results of this test and the answers to the questions. Any takes on this? Behavioural interviews and tests have no real answers. They are designed, for the most part, to help employers determine what sort of person you are, how you would respond in a crises situation and, in some cases, your answers will determine if the employer feels you will fit in with the company dynamic. For example: If you answer the question "When faced with a new situation I...a.) take the bull by the horns and charge...b.) walk away hoping that someone else will handle....c.) not my problem, not even my department. Let's say you picked answer A. This could mean that you are dynamic, a go-getter and no job is too big for you to handle. This could also mean that you rush into things without knowing or realizing what you are doing. Let's say you picked answer B. This could mean that you prefer to have things remain ant status quo and you do not like new challenges. This could also mean you know your limits and you realize what boundries you cannot cross. The answers mean different things to different people. Nobody is going to answer the same question the same way. Also, be aware that behavioural tests have questions designed to trip you up with the way they are worded. With these questions the employers are looking specifically for consistency in your answers and to determine if you know how to read between the lines and come to the correct conclusion. | |
