Recruiters and Staffing Agencies

Would a staffing agencies that either contacts me on behalf of a company, or post jobs for the company get a percentage of my salary (assuming I get the job)? Or do companies pay them from a set budget? I generally don't get a good feeling from these companies (too much smoke and mirrors). I much rather communicate directly with the actual company (even if it's their HR department as opposed to the hiring manager).

Recruiters that post the advertisments forthe company are generally paid by the company AFTER they hire someone and that person passes the probationary period.

Recruiters that post general announcements to entice job seekers to contract with their agency sometimes ask for a fee up front, sometimes ask for a fee after a job has been found (regardless of probationary success) but most times do not ask for any type of fee as they will charge the company should one actually ask for their assistance.

Before you sign anything with them, ask about their fee schedule. Also, remember, that you are not the only person they are sending on this interview. The more people they send, the better their chances of someone being hired and of their earning a fee.
