Two staffing agencies aren't enough.  In my field, it seems that most of the positions are being fronted by placement/staffing agencies.  Each one will only get you about 3 interviews, max.  And, never ever pay a placement fee.  Any company that won't pay to get you will mistreat you about money somewhere down the line.

I have found that I do better taking temp-to-perm positions.  I'm not sure if I'm just too weird in regular interviews, or if it's a different attitiude toward hiring when folks do temp-to-perm.  Don't ignore temp assignments -- it's money in your pocket, and experience under your belt.
