looking 4 help
I live in the Dallas area and it seems to IT job market is saturated. I have an associates degree and 19+ years of experience. However, no current certs. I am working with four placement agencies and actively networking with friends, family, and strangers (being out of work for awhile will bring you out of seclusion real quick!). I've applied to over 200 businesses with a minimal response. I've worked some with Manpower but the jobs are too far in-between. I am not sure if I should start my own business or keep trudging the sands for the "man".??? You need a relatively large bank account for your own business. For start up costs, product, advertising, rent, permits, etc. You will need contacts also. Can you go to some classes at night and get the certificates needed? I think that people who hire from a new business are going to be looking or that. Have you tried to apply to businesses that are in your desired industry but for positions that are just this side out of your field. Jobs that still require you to have the knowledge but where you wouldn't necessarily be actively working in the position you have in the past. The other thing, of course, is to make sure that you tailor your cover letter and your resume to the job which you are applying. And, naturally, the other common sense issues of spelling and grammar. Even IT people need to be able to spell. (though of the IT people I have dealt with, most I wonder how they graduated basic English). | |
