Telling poss. new job about layoff

I got laid off last Thursday. Totally saw it coming.

I had a job interview last Tuesday with the company I worked for years ago. I knew all four people in the interview. It lasted 1 1/2 hours and went really well. The dept. is short handed. 3 people down and 1 going out on maternity leave tomorrow. I think I have a good shot anyway, but am wondering if I should tell them that due to the layoff, I can start immediately. Because it might make me more attractive to them by being able to start now instead of waiting 2 weeks. The only risk I can think of would be that I may lose the salary bargaining power. Although it has a range so at the worse it would be lower in the range.

A friend used to work in this particular dept. (left due to a move) and she advised me to tell them. She said the earlier start date plus the sympathy factor could help.
