Need some direction!!I appreciate all input for those that read this. So basically I graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design from a good college about 3 years ago. However, now I have found myself to be disillusioned with the whole graphic design field as a job. I like to do it in my free time, but not as a full time job plus it doesn' t pay well. So I am rethinking about what I would like to do as far as a future career plan. I am working at this great company now that have friendly people and a very laid back atmosphere. The only thing is it doesn' t pay well and there doesn' t seem to be much advancement. So I am looking towards getting into business or internet security. If anyone else has any other suggestions I would love to hear them. Law was a thought, but I was told not a good idea. I am at a crossroads right now. I would eventually like to go back for my masters if it will help me land a better job. Suggestions or comments?? I take it that you know Illustrator, Photo Shop and Quark? My nephew is a Graphic Artist and makes a nice salary in the mid $150k range per year. How did he do it? He decided to freelance on his own because he could not secure a decent job like you are experiencing. He went out and did volunteer work for various charities to get his name recognized. The only recognition he received was his credit line at the bottom of advertising posters and banners. Once corporations saw his work, they requested his services. The beginning was very rough. He sank all of his profits back into the business. But what he did in the mean time was to solicit business from brides/grooms, parties, corporate event and designed a lot of advertising and printed material. Those jobs got him a lot of referrals and today he owns his own graphic design business with 15 graphic artists and 10 production workers. | |
