No job description...What should I doI received a call from a recruiter the latter part of last week telling me she found my resume on here. She proceeded to ask me if I was still seeking employment (which I am) I replied yes. she them calls me back on Monday telling me the client wants to interview me and we schedule an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. The problem is when I ask her about he position and a job description all she told me was it was in a shipping office. My question is; should I call the interviewer of the company to ask for a job description?
Yes, but under a different name and different phone number if convenient. It is unfortunate but some recruiters don't prepare you properly and/or the position is not that great. You need to know what you are getting your self in to without letting the hiring manager know that you don't know. I wasn' t sure just how to go about it but thought I should at least find out what the position is. I find it unprofessional (what a surprise) that a recruiter would not have a job description. I would NOT call the company but call the recruiter back and ask for a job description prior to the interview so you can be prepared. You may not get one but ask anyway. If the job does not tun out to be one that you want, make sure the company knows that had you had the job description before the interview, you would not have wasted their time or yours. It could be that the recruiter doesn't yet have a written job description from the employer. Maybe this came up last minute due to someone leaving unexpectedly, the company's in a rush to fill it, whatever. There could be several reasons why there isn't a formal job description yet. And it may not be the recruiter's fault. As in, the client companty calls and says, "We need someone in our shipping office to input shipping information, output labels, do bills of lading, and a bunch of other things. We're in a hurry; we'll get back to you with the details. Bye." Apparently the job must match to some degree your qualifications and also what you indicate on your resume you are looking for. I don't think at this point in time there's a need to be overly concerned. They have a job they think you are a good fit for, you are looking for a job. Go to the interview, find out what the job is all about, and take it from there. Now, if the employer doesn't know or won't tell you the specifics of the job, then you have reason to be concerned (and to get out of there ASAP). I had not thought about it that way and I really feel a little stupid because I have worked for and with these kind of agencies and should have. I decided last night the recruiter would not have called me if I did not fit the profile the company is looking for. I am going to the interview prepared for a couple of different scenarios that I know will be part of the job. Will let you know how it comes out. I too found it a little unprofessional that there was not job description. But after thinking about it and reading the post form here I think I know enough about the the industry that I can prepare myself for the interview. I did call the recruiter and ask what the position was and she told me it was in a shipping department. I have been in the industry for 15+ years so I think I will be ok. Keep you frngers crossed. | |
