Never ran into this procedure before...

I received a call from a company I applied to to schedule and interview. The person who called said that I was going to receive an e-mail with a link to the online application that needed to be filled out within 48 hours after receiving the link (that was around 5 pm yesterday). They did not say when I was going to receive the link, and I didn' t think to ask. The interview is in a week. I' ve never done the electronic application thing before, so I am not sure exactly how it works. I assumed I was going to receive the link as soon as I got off the phone, but I still have not received it. When should I call to inquire about the link, about 24 hours after our conversation (I don' t want to appear impatient), or 48 hours prior to the interview (since it has to be filled out within 48 hours and before showing up for the interview)? Has anyone here ever had a potential employer e-mail them the application? How soon after the initial contact does this normally happen?

I have had these links provided to me before, and it has sometimes taken a day or so to get them.  I would suggest if you don' t get the email by Monday to call the person back that you spoke to.

Thanks for responding. Looks like I' m going to have to call them Monday afternoon (I won' t even try getting through on Monday morning). I' m looking forward to playing voice mail tag with them (god forbid someone at these large companies should answer their phone). Yes, yes, I know, just because something is a priority for the job seeker doesn' t mean it' s a priority for the employer as well, but honestly, how hard is it to send a form e-mail with a link? Who knows, maybe they decided to cancel the interview and "forgot" to tell me. Regardless of how many interviews I go to, it never seizes to amaze me how inept some of these HR people are. I thought about only applying to smaller companies to avoid all of the red tape, but I kind of like working with a large staff of people. Keeps things interesting. I guess it' s a trade off.

I hear you. I' m LOL on the comment about only applying to smaller companies to avoid all of the red tape.  That' s the only type of company I apply to, and will work for, and you would think it would be easier.  NOT!!!  They are even worse.

What part of the country do you live in?  I was thinking if it was near enough to me we could start our own company together, and maybe call it  "Revenge of the Fed Up Job Applicants."  What do you think?

"...maybe call it  "Revenge of the Fed Up Job Applicants."

LOL! Maybe we would all get together and form the "Job Seeker Consultants' " agency...

Our motto could be "Fed up with modern-day job seeking? Come to us--we can' t help you get the job, but we' ll make you feel lot better about it."

Bless you!!!  You go girl!!!  Now I know why I like you. You really know how to make someone feel better. (Of course, the three glasses of Pinot Grigio I had at dinner tonight didn' t hurt either!

Let' s discuss! this in detail!!

I'm in!

Eek, I really hate having to call a prospective employer, for whatever reason. They never answer the phone, and you are always left to wonder whether or not the person checks their VM. I'm hoping that when she realizes Monday that she did not get a completed application from me, she'll forward the link without my having to call. Call me an optimist, LOL.

I don't understand what's up with the HR folk. It's almost like they specifically seek out and hire the least capable people they can find. At my last job, the people in the HR department were all helpful, and fun, and intelligent, and the Director of HR actually answered his phone, even when he did not recognize the number. Makes me wonder why I don't come across HR departments like that at the places where I interview. There was one company where I was kind of impressed with their HR people, but then my potential co-worker turned out to be a bumbling idiot and a jerk, so that was the end of that. I've got to tell you, if I didn't have an ever so slight superiority complex, all of this rejection would've really hurt my confidence by now.

You gotta love job searching. I can't wait to land a job, learn it from the bottom up, prove myself, receive no reward for it whatsoever, get fed up with all the BS, and go through the whole process all over again, and again, and again, until I either retire or die!

"Who knows, maybe they decided to cancel the interview and "forgot" to tell me."

Or he/she may have simply gotten distracted and forgot, or there may be a problem with their server preventing e-mails from getting out (happened in my office just this week), or there may have been a fire in the kitchen, or one of about a million other things that may have prevented him/her from doing what they said they were going to do. You are doing yourself a disservice by automatically assuming the worst. If you are irritated, angry, frustrated, and let it come through during your phone call, you will seriously hurt your chances of getting this job.

Call on Monday. Try to get the person you spoke to one the phone, but if you can't leave a SHORT message stating your name, the position for which you are applying, and that you have not received the link to their application as was discussed during your phone call last (Thursday?). Leave your phone number, confirm your e-mail address, and hang up. Then, move on with your job search. Never sit by the phone waiting for an employer to call.

Good luck!
