Appropriate follow upI have recently moved to a new state and started looking for work. I have been to several interviews and in the past week have two really good leads. I actually received a job offer with one company that I interviewed with and the other I have interviewed with and done some follow up with the office manager but he is still trying to decide. My question is, would it be appropriate for me to call him and let him know that I have received a job offer from another company but that I would really prefer to come to work for his company? If so, how do I go about asking him this question? First of all, have you accepted the first job offer yet? If not, when do you have to get back to them? You don' t say when you last contacted the second company, but if you have a pending job offer, I would just suggest you contact # 2 again and state that you had to be pushy, but you have another offer you are considering, and have a time limit on getting back to them, so you were just wondering if they had made their decision yet. If they would ask you what the salary offer from the other company is, etc, don' t say anything. You don' t want to appear you are playing games. Just let them know you are really interested in working for their company, and leave it at that. Yes, in a way I have accepted the position. But I know that there is another person on standby. And the job doesn't start until Monday. So I could get ahold of the second company today and talk with them to see if they have made any progress in their decision. I don't want to turn off the second company by apprearing to be arogant or pushy, I just want what is best for me and my family. I last contacted the second company on Tuesday of this week. It is a hurry up and make a decision at that company also. They don't have anyone in that position at the time being and need to get someone there as quickly as possible. They told me that they would TRY to make a decision by the end of the week but might not get made until next week. I don't have until next week. I just want to make sure that I am doing the correct thing. Thanks for the advice. If anyone else has anything to say please let me know quickly.
Explain that you have an offer but would prefer to work for their company. If they can not make a fast decision, move on and start your new job. If they really liked you, the other company will do what they can to hire you. Thanks guys, You all really made this a lot better for me. Now I can move on with a clean conscious and happy heart, knowing that I have done all that I can do. | |
