Post Interview Letter Help

I need some advice on writing an interview follow-up letter.

After 2 phonescreening interviews and 4 in-person interviews I thought things went reallywell. The HR person told me they would get back to me within a day or 2 so Isent email “Thank You’s” to the hiring manager and the HR contact immediately. The next day I received an email from HR telling me they went with somebodyelse. I thanked the HR person and asked if there was additional feedback hecould give me. His response was this:

This is strictly a matter of hiring an individual withexperience more directly related to our industry.  I will not hesitate to contact you aboutother opportunities that I think will interest you and correspond well withyour professional background.

I still believe I am the perfect candidate for this positionand do not want to give up on the position. I want to write a letter to thehiring manager to reiterate everything we discussed in our interview and solicita response directly from him. So, my question are: Is this type of letterappropriate? What are my best approaches to start this letter?

Hi JTPlatt

I believe this should get the ball rolling...........

I'd say it's pretty clear that they've already decided on the other candidate from their response  that the other candidate had more direct experience. That may or may not be true, but there's not much you can do about it. You win some, you lose some. You asked for feedback, they gave it. The end. How do you think you're going to change their mind by an email?

They were obviously impressed by you if they said they'd keep you in mind for other opportunities, but I think if you persist in the vein you're asking about, you're going to come off as desperate, not pro-active/assertive.

If you take the comments at face value, they seem to like you and would take you for another position but just lost out on this one. If that is the case, why push your luck?

If they are just giving you a line of BS, why try to sell yourself again? It didn't work the first and won't work the second time.

Write a thank-you and move on with your job search. If you see something you like at that company in the future, call your contact directly and discuss it with them.

You DON'T know that you are more qualified than the candidate they chose, and you won't change their mind. If you keep pushing, best case scenario--nothing changes, worst case scenario--they change their mind about considering you for future positions. Let it go.
