Keeping my Interview on the DL
At my current job, the dress is business casual, and I have an interview next week. I know I definitely need to dress up, but how do I do it without calling any attention to myself. The interview is during my lunch hour. I know I can take the extra time no problem, but I wouldn' t have time to go somewhere and get changed. Any ideas?
I would wear something casual and keep your suit in the car to quickly change into. Posted before I was finished...If you can spare 5 minutes to stop someplace on the way. If not then can you wear the suit without the jacket and leave just the jacket in the car?
That' s what I do. I wear my casual, but most of which can easily be changed or just worn under a suit. For example, a t-shirt that can double as an undershirt. Then I keep my suit in my car. I also make sure to park my car away from anywhere that a coworker might see. As a guy though, I might be luckier as it might not take as much time for me to change. So I really just need like 15 minutes in some public bathroom or my car to change.
What do you do if you work in a congested city and commute to work on the train? Lug your suit with you? Would it be too suspicious to say that you have a ____(insert community/business organization)_____ event/dinner to go to straight after work? Or does that scream of "I have an interview and I' m trying to hide it from you?
It is not an easy thing to do. If you have a gym membership, you can stuff your suit there or any other alternate locations. Let us know if u come up with something more clever. Do what you have to do. What motivates me is that if I don' t find a clever way, then I' m stuck in a job that takes advantage of me.
What do you do if you work in a congested city and commute to work on the train? "I have a hot date after work and want to look nice." "I' m meeting my spouse after work for (theater, show, music event, party at his/her work)" (This won' t work if the event is something your co-workers might also attend, or if it is something where dressing up won' t work like a Grateful Dead concert- choose wisely). "My great aunt is having her 75th birthday party at (name of nice restaurant) tonight." | |
