full time job or own business

I have a problem, I'm not sure what to do. I am currently unemployed, I have three employers looking to hire me. My husband is starting a new business, which I will eventually be heavily involved in, but it's just taking off. It has to potential to get big in no time, where I would be needed to work a lot. Should I take a full time job, and wait and see, possibly quitting after a week or so. Or wait and see what happens with the business, then if I need to, take a full time job. I just don't feel ok with misleading people that I will be there for a long time when I might not. Any input would be helpful.

Take a job, then see what happens with the business. During a start up like this, somebody in the family needs to be earning a steady income, preferably with benefits.

Do not quit the job until you see how the business goes. Even if it means you & your husband will have to work double hours for a while.

Don't think if you take a job now, you'll be in a position to quit in a week--it's going to take at least 6 months before your husband has an idea of whether or not his business will work out.

Good luck.

I agree with Anne Marie. At least one of you should have a stable, full-time job during the ramp up of the business. If the business fails, they two of you are out of work.

Get the business started and contribute the time that you can. At some point you will have to decide (a) to go full time of (b) it isn't going to work out and you can make the decision then.

Thanks for the input. I was really stressing about the whole thing, but I know now that its the right thing to do. This afternoon I accepted a full time job with a good company. I worked there a couple of days on contract to see if I'd like them, and if they liked me. Now I'm just going to take it day by day. Thanks again.

And you shouldn't leave a full time job if your husband's business does well for a week or two.  You should wait until it does well for a full year.  Start ups have ups and downs.  If he needs your help, do it after work and on weekends or get a part-time on call temp type person to help him out.
