Career Tips

what does this mean

I had the first interview a few weeks ago, and now they' ve contacted about a second interview. In the same inquiry about my availability, they also asked whether I have any other interviews or job offers that I need "quick answers" on. What does this mean? Is there a wrong answer here? Should I disclose that I have other job prospects?

I think they are telling you that you are a viable candidate, and they want to know if they are going to lose you to another company, due to the time it' s taking to interview and choose a candidate to hire. I have had a few companies and recruiters ask me the same thing after my first interview.

So, answer them honestly.  If you have had other interviews, but no offers, just tell them you are actively interviewing, but no offers are pending.   Of course, if an offer comes in from another company, let them know, so they can move up the time of the 2nd interview.

I agree!  There are some companies and recruiters that will ask if you are entertaining any other offers.   Here's why...

1.  They want to know so they can speed up their process if they think you're a viable candidate.

2.  Some recruiters/companies see it as a sign of someone that's being heavily sought after if you are entertaining other offers.

3.  Some will judge your response to show if you are "actively" or just "passively" looking for a new job.
