Is this good or bad

I had a interview Tuesday I think when very well. The interviewer say I would be a good fit for the position, and asked me my salary requirements. He commented that he wanted to pay me more then I was currently making. I left the interview with a big smile on my face, thinking I was a definite candidate for the position.

Well today I got a voicemail from the HR person telling me they were still trying to make a final decision, and "if I have any questions to call her or email her if I needed them to rush there decision. Also, they were having a hard time because they have so many good candidates". I called her office but she have left for the day, and will not be back in the office until Monday.

Tell me what you think she is trying to tell me.

Confused

I can't believe the person asked if you needed them to rush their decision. That will not happen. If you were to reply "yes", you would seem desperate. After the interview, did you call or email the person or persons you interviewed with to thank  them for their time, and tell them YOU feel you would be a good fit for the company and looking forward to hearing from them? I have found that small thing goes a very long way. I would contact them and say that first, if you haven't already, and let them know you are still interested, but do not seem desperate.

Yes, I email both parties thanking them for the interview. Also, I re-confirmed my qualifications, skills, and interest.

The confusion for me is when she ended the call saying " they are having a tough time making the decision because they have so many good candidates". Hell, am I one of the candidates or not?

I don't know what to make of this.......

She wouldn't have contacted you, if you were not one of the good candidates. When did you send the thank you email, and when did she contact you and tell you that? I would let her know you received her message, appreciate it, and that you will be looking forward to hearing back from her. You  won't seem desperate, like I said, but persistance is always good, especially if it is a sales job.

It's good, I think.  I'll bet at least one of the other candidates has another offer and is putting pressure on them for a quick answer.  They're afraid that if they wait too long all their best candidates will be gone.

Patience is a virtue, but I'd call back and ask if there's anything you can do that will tip the odds in your favor.

I sent the thank you letter as soon as I got home from the meeting. I agree, if I am not one of the good candidate why bother to call.

She's telling you that you're still in the running, but so are several others.  That's it, don't read a lot into it.

Tess

Well, I e-mailed her right after I got her voicemail, and re-confirmed my interest and skills. I hope you are right about me being one of the good candidates. I will know for sure Monday. Thanks for your comments.

Tess,

I hope that's what it is. Thanks for your positive input.
