Interview after OfferHello. About a month and a half ago I was offered a position that I declined. I took another position that i felt was well suited for me. After working for my new employer for two weeks I realized I was not happy in the work environment and felt this employer had a better work environment because they have great advancement opportunity. I called up the place that previously had given me a offer and they asked me to come in and talk to the department head about my job search today. I am wondering if anyone else has had a situation like this before. Do I possibly have a good chance at getting another offer from this place again? Any advice or comments is appreciated. Thank You.
I strongly suggest you meet with the previous employeer and state, in so many words, that you have concluded that this company may provide with a better opportunity for your career. This is your career, and the last thing you want to do is work in a place that you will eventually leave. So do it now and move forward. If the previous company was interested in you before, your chances may be better than you expect.
I am planning on going to the interview today. I am nervous because I have never been in this type of situation before. I keep telling myself that it's going to go well and that chances are the offer still may stand. If they are offering me to come in again to meet with them, they must still be interested. I hope they still have all my paper work (application, notes they took during the interviews) so I won't have to start from scratch again. I met with them 3-4 times before. Thank you for your comment. Wish me luck!! I went to the interview that day and the lady that was going to meet with me had to leave unexpectedly. Later on that day HR called me to apologize that they did not get a chance to contact me before I showed up to the interview to reschedule. The following day the manager that I will be meeting with called me personally to apologize and reschedule. The reschedule is set for today. I wonder how much of a chance I will get the job now after already getting an offer previously and then with them having to reschedule?? I think the lucky stars may be in my favor today already, I already won tickets to a concert on the radio today when I was job hunting on my pc this morning! Let's hope I get a offer today for a job! Try not to be so nervous! Clearly they are still interested, and clearly you still have a chance at either being offered something currently, or at being kept "in the loop" for future openings. You just have to be really honest in explaining that the the other position you took (with Company B, lets' call them) has turned out to not be a good fit, and that you feel it's better to leave them now rather than several more months down the road. That you really were impressed by Company A at the time, and it was a difficult decision to make. That you realize now that "A" offers you more and the fit would be better, etc. Don't go on & on, but assure them that you really do want to work for THEM and are not merely looking for an "out" from "B." A similar situation happened to me a few years ago. I got 2 offers, declined the first one, but it ended up not working out (great job, great people, but they needed someone more hours than I could comfortably work). Ended up back at the first company, got offered a position that was, thankfully, different from the first one they offered me, and stayed there almost 3 years. It was the best part-time job I've ever had! It was not awkward for me to go back & interview with them, and there were absolutely no "lingering" doubts or effects due to my turning them down earlier. Please don't sabotage your chances simply by being so frantic over this. Calm down, be confident. You already "know" these people--hopefully that will set you at ease a bit more. Good luck! | |
