Resigning.
I am progressing nicely with a prospective Company. I had two phone interviews and I was told to come in for a face to face. It is looking good? Anyway, if I have to leave my present employer. I am aware of the two week notice, but besides that how do I go about this. Also, I have the sneaking suspicion that my current company and boss are going to act up. Any tips on just a nice clean break. I want to preserve my standing the best I can, but if the gloves come off, I may be tempted to reciprocate any nonsense that comes up.
When you have agreed on a start date with the new company, you schedule a face to face meeting with your boss. You tell him thanks for everything but your last day will be XXX. You then hand him a written note that says something to the effect of: Per our conversation, this is to confirm my resignation effective as of XXX. (You can add something nice here about your time working for them). Sincerely, You. Then during your two weeks notice you suck it up and deal with it and reciprocate any nonsense. Tess I agree with Tess. They can't really do anything to you if you're leaving. The most they can do is pile up a huge workload on your desk and try to make you work through it all before you leave. In most cases, that would be stupid on their part because you're leaving. What do you care if their workload doesn't get done? Another thing I've seen companies do is just go ahead and pay you for the two weeks and tell you to hit the door. It may have to do with security issues or it may be that your boss is mean like that. At any rate, follow Tess's advice and turn the letter in and let the chips fall where they may. Jay When you have accepted the offer, have the face-to-face with your manager and give notice. Also have your notice in writing stating when your last day will be, thank them for the opportunity they provided, offer to assist in the transition of your duties and offer to be available for questions after you leave. If some BS arises during your notice period, be a stand up guy and ignore it. Go out with your head held high. Ever since we got a new Manager some strange things have happened. Almosy simultaniously however some good competition arrived right down the street. People have been leaving like never before. The ones that do not find better employment have been going back to school. I have found an excellent Company that needs me. I have a face to face interview today. I am really hoping I can fit there. Anyway, if people head to a competetor they do what Jay said: They throw you out. I would actually love that. A really nice girl we had just hired accepted a (better) job, and they threw her out. She was hysterical. It was not nice to see, she did not desreve the way they did things. I do not want this clown (manager) to screw things up for me. That would be bad, really bad. Being an amitious person I recently started a successful process that I manage for this company. It would be ridiculous for them to throw me out. I will offer assistance and provide support like Chet8625 advised, however.
I like you Tess ;) | |
