Appearance

cool

It seems we are competing in a tough market. Once again, We let Bush in office and the economy slows.

I voted for him too, but Dems get my vote this year.

Ok, for the topic at hand, I was not babbling about looking younger, I was simply stating a fact that appearance has EVERYTHING to do with landing your acting role. A job is an acting role. You have to look the part as well. No one at the office should know the real you.

Yes, I am competing with all those women, but those women are all older than me. I asked on Yahoo Answers if small to medium sized business owners would be more inclined to hire an older woman, and because they can basically remain anon (unlike here where we have full-time message board bloggers), they said they would hire Big Bertha to come in and save the day over hiring some one that looked young because older people "understand" the business world better and will work their ####$ off. That is the answer I got.

So with that said, the interview is an audition, doing the job is reading a cue card (manager has script), and being able to play the part flawlessly gets you in the door. From now on, I am going remember that when I go on interview. It's all an acting gig these days.

Thanks for the previous responses as I plan on sending out more resumes and hopefully interviewing. But I am going to tone down my expectation level. Meaning, I will go from expecting a 2nd interview or job offer to hey, I interviewed today, I did something productive, and then I will go home and finish my beading project.wink

Aham....I understand what you mean with old versus young but I don't necessaily agree with the answers you got from the yahoo answers users. And this is because you can revert the effect and make yourself look younger or older, just by modifying items like clothes, body language, verbal and paraverbal language.
Basically, you are right that appearance is most important and one should "guess" what the employer is looking for, thus adjusting himself to those "necessities". But then again, things like these seem normal, at least to me.
