Before 3rd Interview
I have had an in person and a phone interview with ABC company. I was told that there would be a third interview shortly. I called to follow up and was told that I was the only candidate so far but they wanted to find others so there would be a few to choose from for the position. Is this a normal interview process or are they just looking for a better candidate?
Yes this is normal and yes, they're looking for someone better. Or someone to compare to so that they can say why you are better.

Thank you. That's what I was thinking. This was the first time that I have experienced this. I do have another offer but was a little put off by this situation.
I interviewed with ABC once myself, what a bunch of jerks! Be sure to tell them that you're interviewing other jobs, hoping to find others to choose from as well. What's this third interview stuff, anyway? I expect to start getting paid by the second interview. I know, I'm a jerk too. Wouldn't it be funny if you did find a better job by the time they get around to offering you the job? I had that happen a couple of years ago. I saw a contract job posted, eMailed my resume. Got a call from the shop that afternoon. About a week or so later, I had a phone interview with the client. Meanwhile, in between, I got a call from another shop. This guy set up the phone interview the same day, had the job offer in two more. The first week I was working that job (at $10/hr more than the first one paid), the first guy called to offer me the job. He blamed the client. | |
