Talking about other interviews to HR

Is it a bad idea to mention you are interviewing at other places as well? An example is if you are asked to come in for an interview and are only given one choice on a  date.  Is it wrong to tell them the truth, that you have other interviews on that day? Would that make you sound more desirable or just #### & unprofessional?
If you can't make it, tell them you have another committment and cannot make it in on that date. The time to generate perceived demand is not at this stage in the interview.
As I mention in my book, there's nothing wrong with letting an interviewer know that you're being considered by others.  This says you're "in demand," which means you're good!  And you're sending the message "Grab me while you still can."

On one hand, mentioning being interviewed at other places may have one company go "we need to get this person while we can." Other places may feel that you'll accept an offer from someone else, or quit if something better comes along.

Relistically you are both in the same place, looking at many options and picking the best. It'd be like you questioning if they are interviewing other people.

I'd say unless they directly ask, don't supply additional information. I have been asked in interviews where else I'm looking, a vague answer is better, and then show interest in them. "I've talked to a few places, but I am really interested in working for your company so I hope this goes well..."

In your case, stating you are unavailable that day and suggesting a different time and day is fine. For all they know, you have a doctors appointment. No need to explain why. If they're really interested they'll work with your schedule.

It depends on who you're talking to.  If you're talking to IHR, they just consider your being in demand a problem for them.  They aren't interested in getting the best employee, they're interested in getting one who will show up when it's convienent for them.  They have important things like lunch to deal with.

The hiring manager, on the other hand, is more interested in getting someone who can do the job.
