Theyre Calling References NowJust curious about job-seekers who have gotten to the "you're a our top candidate and we're calling your references" stage. Has anyone on this board *not* received an offer at this stage? For what reason? Overall, what do you think the likelihood of an offer is at this stage? For the record, I have very strong references - past supervisors, current associate, etc. congrats on your new job.... unless the budget for the position gets pulled, the owners nephew needs a job, the supervisors mistress needs a job or one of your references has a brain fart and says something really stupid.
Yes..unfortunately, this has happened to me. talked to all my references, everyone gave a glowing review...then they re-routed the funding for the position and made it into an internship. True story. Sigh.
Good luck--sounds like you probably have the job, unless something unforeseen happens. Personally, once I've gotten to this point in the process and my references are called, I have always gotten the offer. Just my experience, though.... As a hiring manager I have had the occasion to have two top candidates and called the references for both since the references were the deciding factor. But I didn't tell them they were the "top candidate". So if you are the top candidate, you are probably in good shape.
Did you end up getting the job, Dan?? I am in your exact situation right now. | |
