Recd offer, but interested in other job

I went in for an interview a while ago for a couple of openings at this one company and I was interested in this one position of the two.  During the interview, the HR rep told me about this other job that is also available and asked if I'd be interested.  I wasn't sure what the job was, so I said that I'd check it out and keep my options open.  Then I was told that I should expect to interview for all the positions that week.  Well, I was asked to come in for an interview only for the position that they told me about, and not the ones that I was originally interested in. I still thought that I'd interview for the other positions.  Instead, they made me an offer for the one that I am not as interested. Now the HR rep seems irrirated that I still want to interview for the other position before I accept the offer. I want to be able to make a comparison of the positions after meeting w/ the hiring managers, but I obviously can't do that now. I don't even know if this rep even forwarded my resume to the hiring manager of the position I wanted.  She didn't seem happy at all and I don't know what to do.  Any suggestions?

They've slotted you into the job that they think you're best suited for.  It is not your place to insist that they interview you for something else.  For all you know, you would not have even been a candidate for the second job.

So, you can take the offer that's in front of you and thank them for thinking of you and apologize for being difficult with the hope of moving to the other department next year, or you can pass on this and look for something else.

Oh, wow, I didn't realize that I would be perceived this way.  It certainly was not my intention to be difficult or ungrateful to anyone, so that makes me feel terrible...
