Interviews and facial hair

So I'm getting ready for an interview, and the last interview I did was in November.  At that time, I did not wear a goatee, but right now I do.  What is the view on this facial hair style?  Should I lose it for the next interview, or it does not have any bearing at all?

The answer is, it depends.  If it is a conservative industry in a conservative location, you may want to lose it.

If I take into consideration the "rules" in my country, I would say a goatee is actually a sign of seriosity and maturity, thus, it would rather be a plus during an interview. Of course, you have to bare in mind that the general aspect of your face should represent a nice balance so if this goatee actually helps you find this balance, go with it, no roblem.
If the facial hair is rare and not uniform, you can lose it.

Good luck. The goatee is not a very big problem.

I'm with Tess. If you are in a conservative field, you're better off without the goatee. If our field is not particularly concervative, it doesn't matter.
I tihnk if it is very neatly trimmed and not too long, and it really enhances your looks, I'd say go ahead! Unless your industry is super-duper conservative, I don't see it as a problem. Even bankers & stock brokers wear goatees!!!!

My personal opinion of any facial hair whatsoever is that noone should have it. Facial hair, to me, indicates that the person has something to hide. And having something to hide indicates untrustworthiness. If your field of choice is one in which people have to trust you, is: banker, sales (of any kind), stock broker, some retail, then a beard or any facial hair is not the route that you should go.

Take it a little at a time. Shave for your interview. If you get the job and you still would like the hair on our face, then look around and ask around. Does anyone else have a beard, goatee, moustache? Is there a policy at the company that prohibits facial hair?

For no other reason than to be on the safe side, go without the goatee.

I always though Santa Claus was hiding something!!!
Kelly, no company is going to have a formal written policy prohibiting facial hair. That would be religious descrimination (I can think of 3 religious groups off the top of my head that would have a problem with that). There is an unwritten rule against facial hair in some conservative fields, but unless the op is in one of those fields, facial hair should not be a problem. Of course, there is always a chance that he may come across an interviewer who really has a problem with facial hair, but then again, the interviewer may be someone who likes goatees.

As it happens, I worked at a retail store that did have a written policy that the female employees had to wear their hair up in a chignon or ponytail, minimal makeup including no eyeshadow and light pink lipstick and the male employees were to be clean shaven and their hair cut to above the nape of their neck and slicked back off their foreheads.

Now, this was years ago and the policy may have changed, but I recently went to an Albertsons and my son needed to visit the restroom. I went into the women's room and there was a sign on the door it was written on that sign that female employees had to wear minimal makeup (no color restrictions listed) and male employees were to be clean shaven.

If this is discrimination or if the retail industry is an exception to the rule, I wouldn't have any knowledge of since I am not in that business nor intend to be ever again.

I believe restaurants may have a similar policy, written or not, for no other reason than cleanliness. Who wants hair in their food.

I have a beard and I have no intention of shaving it for a job.  If a company won't hire me because of my facial hair (which is full, but neat), I don't want to work for them.  Simple as that.
