I hate e mails
I'm not a neurotic person and generally do not overreact to small things. However, I just applied to a company I REALLY want to work for. I bcc'd myself on the e-mail as I always do and realized when I opened my copy that the resume attachment had not gone through. So, I re-sent the e-mail, and this time the attachment went through. Do you think they'll assume I'm an idiot when they see 2 identical e-mails, one with the resume attachment and one without, or does it seem reasonable to expect whoever opens the e-mails to realize that the 2nd one was sent because the 1st one did not go through correctly? I'm now kicking myself for not explaining in the 2nd e-mail that I'm resending because the attachment apparently did not go through the first time around. However, who doesn't know that attachments are lost sometimes? I figured there was no need to complicate the text of the e-mail with an explanation of what should be pretty self-explanatory. Did I mess up, or is this ok?
Breathe. Unless your e-mail is opened by someone who has never in their life accidentally clicked "Send" before they were ready, or sent an e-mail and later found out that the e-mail and/or the attachments were messed up by the server, you have nothing to worry about. Most people understand that when it comes to technology, sometimes things don't work the way they should. It's a good thing that you copied yourself on the e-mail, or you wouldn't even know that it didn't go through. I also like to bcc myself on all job search related e-mails. If I saw two emails from the same person referencing the same subject, the first thing that would cross my mind is that something went wrong with the first email sent. Don't worry about it. A sane and reasonable person would keep in mind that things happen with emails. It may be the fastest and most convenient way to send a message from home, but it definately has its faults. And attachments not attaching is the most common that I have heard of.
That is why I prefer to send my own emails, instead of going through Monster and others. When you send, just later open up the attachment to verify that is the right resume too.
You did just fine. You did not even make a real mistake. You made a correction because the resume attachment did not go through. It's very smart to "bcc" yourself when sending emails with resume attachments. I consider myself intelligent but I never thought to do that when I was job searching. I certainly will in the future if I have to look for work again! Good for you. Stop stressing about this and making a big deal out of it. They're too busy to speculate on candidates and whether or not they are stupid, intelligent, careless, whatever. Best wishes!
