Interview Follow Up Timeline HelpI created a topic over the weekend called "Should I call with questions?", and this topic pertains to the same interview. A little background: I' m currently employed, interviewing both within and outside the company for a new position. I would rather not stay with my current company (well, this property, not necessarily the company itself), and am using the three positions I have put-in for at my current property as my "fall-backs", in case the outside ventures fail. As I said in the other topic, I had an interview with a company that would be an EXCELLENT fit, for a great position (benefits, location in relation to my home, work schedule, and nearly DOUBLE my current salary), and the interview went very well. The interviewer (the co-manager of the company) told me during my interview 9am Friday (4/6/07) that he would be in touch Monday or Tuesday (4/9 or 4/10) to schedule a 2nd interview so that I could meet with his partner. I also discovered during the interview that he was two weeks behind in hiring for the position, and was looking to hire someone immediately. Fortunately for me, he had not yet interviewed anyone he liked for the position, so I was the first to be granted a 2nd interview. He also said he only had one more candidate to interview after my interview. Additionally, he said he would be making his decision Friday (4/13/07). I e-mailed a "Thank You" note Saturday morning (4/7) within 24 hours of my interview, because I did not want to risk a snail mail letter not arriving before Monday or Tuesday. Additionally, because he did not request my references at the time of the interview, but just a hard-copy of my resume, I e-mailed him my references Monday morning (4/9). This is an internet-related job, by the way, so I figured e-mail is as appropriate as the other forms of communication. As is the standard, I have not received a reply to either of my e-mails, nor do I expect to, since they' re just a "Thank You" and references. However, should I be following up more quickly than the standard time frame, since the decision sounds like it will be made by Friday (4/13)? I' m sure I shouldn' t contact until at least tomorrow (Wednesday, 4/11), since he told me during the interview he would be in touch Monday or Tuesday (today), and normally I wouldn' t be calling that soon at all. What are everyone' s recommendations? The main reason for asking a 2nd opinion is because of the short time frame involved, and also because I' m desperate for this job, and don' t want it to cloud my judgment. I don' t think I' d be so nervous/excited if it wasn' t for the fact that I' ve *got* to get out of my current job. Although that' s the time frame the guy would like, life has a way of getting in the way so that may or may not pan out as you and he expect. At this point, you just need to let things take their course. You can follow up once a week if you haven' t heard anything else. Thanks for the advice! I think because this is a "Sales Manager" position, I was getting advice from friends that I should be more aggressive than usual. That' s not really my thing, so I appreciate the 2nd opinion. I will call him Friday to follow-up, if I haven' t heard from him by that time. Just wanted to let everyone know that I followed-up on the interview I had last Friday morning. I called the man with whom I interviewed, and he said he had calling me on a list of things to do today. I asked him if he would like to schedule a 2nd interview with his partner, and we set-up the 2nd interview for 9am Tuesday morning. So, great news! I' m sure I' ll be back during the weekend for 2nd interview advice, particularly since this is a sales position; I' m meeting with a new person I have yet to meet; and a personality test/assessment was mentioned during the first interview as part of the hiring process. My 2nd interview with this company is tomorrow morning at 9. From what was discussed during the first interview, this 2nd interview will be with the other managing partner of the dealership. Since I set-up the interview with the person with whom I met initially, he may or may not be present during this 2nd interview. Any 2nd interview tips for me? I have supplied the original interviewer with my resume and references, and will, of course, be bringing extra copies of these with me in the morning. Additionally, since this is an Internet Sales Manager position for a new Internet division at a car dealership, I will complete my research on the local competition' s internet departments this evening, in order to show during the interview that I have a good understanding of what we will be up against in building this new division. Of course, I will also discuss again my previous internet/technology and sales experience. Any other pointers or "No-no"s for this type of 2nd interview (sales)? Thank you, everyone! Just one: if you still really want the job on the completion of the interview, ask for it! Then, right on the spot, not in a follow-up thank you letter. In the "old" days, we were always told if you want the job, flat out ask for it, in person. Seems people are afraid to do that these days.... "Based on what I' ve learned so far, I really want (or, "would like") this job. I would start tomorrow if I could." | |
