Offsite Interview

I have an offsite interview in a few days, at a coffee hours. Obviously there are many rules that apply, do your homework, dress and act professionaly, etc. I know all the standards.

But in an offsite interview, is there really anything different other than the location? Should it be more laid back? Am I expected to still dress business professional, or is business casual (dress pants and a sweater or button down) acceptable?

Do I pretend like it's at the office or do I go into the situation differently?

My rule of thumb on interviews, any interview, is go at it like you mean it. Dress as you would if it were an interview at the actual location. There is a chance, albeit slim, that the interviewers are trying to test you to determine if you will still be respectful of "the rules" and dress appropriately for an interview. That may be a

One of the interviews I had a couple of weeks ago, I was told over the phone that it was casual Friday and that if it would make me more comforatbel sicne everyone else was going to be roaming around in jeans and sneakers and the interviewer was also intending to dress that was, I was more than welcome to come in casual clothes. That goes against my beliefs and it is a good thing, too, because, even though everyone from the receptionist to the Human Resource Director to the test administrator was in casual attire, I ended up in two additional mini interviews NOT associated with the position I was applying for. And the two additional hiring managers were NOT in casual attire.

An interview is an interview is an interview.
