Salary Question During an InterviewAs most of you know almost every interview we all have been on the employer always asks what is your current salary? In my circumstance I know I will have to take a cut in pay. I have been with the same company for 6 years and now basically having to start over plus it's just how it is in my location. So how do you answer this question...knowing it could potentially kill your chances of getting a call back or the job. I have even tried to explain my circumstances by not letting too much on that I am willing to take a cut in pay or sounding desperate. I want to try a new tatic besides lying on this question but not sure what that is. To tell you the truth I didn' t quite get the depths of your story, but I got the question allright and there are things to be done. It is called negotiating your salary. Because basically this is what you are doing, right? You leave one job to find a better paid one, if I understood right. If not, correct me. The moment they ask you about your current salary, be straight to the point and display it, and then ask for how much you want (in reasonable amounts, of course). You say "My current salary is $XXX, however I understand that was for another position and based on better times and while I enjoyed making that money I realize those times are over. My current salary expectations are between $X - $Y and I want you to know I am very comfortable with that range." | |
