thank you letters

I want to get an opinion on this...

I went to an interview where I sat with one HR person and three managers.  I sat with each person separately, one following the other.  Do you think it' s necessary to write four separate thank you letters?  Or just one to the HR rep while mentioning the three more in the same letter?

As annoying and redundant as thank you notes can be, you have to have one for each person. I' ve had several interviews where I interviewed with the HR manager/coordinator along with the account teams that were looking to hire me. It shows that you not only have initiative, but respect that each person took the time to speak with you. I think that thank you notes are silly at times because they have a kiss-butt connotation to them, and you feel as if they are wasted if you are not hired, however, it' s a necessity and if the people were actually decent, it' s always good to extend that courtesy. Good luck!

There are folks far more experienced at this search than me, but I hope this gives some clarity.

Thanks for the insight!  I just want to do it the right way.

The people at this company seem very nice.  I will take your advice and hope things will work out in my favor.

Yes, one for each. And don't just say "thanks". Take something each said that was important and expand on it. If the HR person stressed being able to work with a team, you include something like:

"I am glad that you mentioned the importance of working with a team. For the past five years I have been working on a team that was recognized for its work with customers and I am sure I can bring that attitude to any team at XYZ Company."
