Is this a good sign

Hi, I applied to a company for an internship position. I had an initial phone screen, and it went very well. I got a call back about 3 weeks later, and called in for a "2nd round interview". See, this company is in NY and most of the applicants are from the surrounding area. Now, I live in CA. ShHsaid she has never gotten anyone from there, and is shocked that I applied (in a happy/shocked way) :)

I called him today to show my interest in the position (telling him Ill come for the visit). They are flying me out there soon. Now, he (the HR guy) gave me a brief synopsis of what I should expect:

Thursday: Fly in, go to hotel
Friday: start at 930AM, tours, dinner reception etc...
Saturday: Show apartment/house housing for interns, "have some time"

Now, he never said interview on Friday, but I'm assuming there will be some (obviously). Now, does this mean I am almost there (to getting the job???)... If he is flying me out from the other side of the country, mentions the apartments, etc... I have a very good chance right (assuming I do not mess up the visit somehow)? He also said that they only hire 7-8 interns usually, and he was hiring more full-time engineers.

Opinions???

Yes, it is a good sign, BUT, they may have 20 people in your position for 7-8 openings so don' t get too excited.

Also, even if there' s nothing formally on your schedule that says "interview", the ENTIRE time is an interview.  This includes any interaction you have with them about your travel plans before you go or after you return, any comments you make in the taxi, anything you say at lunch or at the dinner, anything you say to another candidate.  Be yourself, be friendly and personable, but DO NOT FORGET THIS IS AN INTERVIEW.   You' re young, I' m sure you' ve seen Friends.  Remember when Chandler was interviewing for a job and got all the way to the end and was on his way out the door when he made some stupid remark?  Then he tried to say "no, wait, the INTERVIEW was over, you can' t count that!"  Doesn' t work that way, so don' t forget the entire thing is an interview.

If there are drinks at lunch or dinner, have a Coke.  You need your wits about you at all times.  Wear something nice but comfortable to travel in on the plane too (at a minimum Dockers and a polo shirt) even if you don' t expect anyone to meet you at the plane.  You may see someone when you check in.

Finally, as someone who flies a lot, if you can bring all your stuff carry on, that' s easier and quicker so you don' t have to wait for your stuff at the luggage counter.  However, the new rules mean that you can' t bring any containers larger than 3oz of liquid or gel and all the ones you have need to fit inside a quart sized zip lock.  If you need a 4oz tube of toothpaste, deodorant or saline (even if it isn' t full) you have to check your luggage.
