Interviewing after being just hired
I was hired, but it's for a job that I'm not all that crazy about pay-wise. In the meantime, some of the employers that I was really interested in have called me for phone and in-person interviews and expressed an interest in setting up more in-person interviews very shortly. What I'm wondering is.......would I be out of line to request an early evening interview? I'm just not sure how I will be able to get out of work in order to make these interviews, since this is a new job.
No, I don' t think it will be out of line. If the interviewer doesn' t empathize for your legitimate working circumstances, then that might be a good, how they will treat you once you work for them. My experience are that the crack of dawn interviews work better because employers tend to be more forgiving of people who come in late and leave late than people who come in early and leave early. Plan out your interviews and pick and choose. I' ve been going to an interview every week for the past month and I' m exhausted. Some of those interviews were quite a waste of time, others were surprisingly pleasant. It does take a toll though. Plan on taking afternoon naps to recuperate.
I doubt a "crack of dawn" interview would be too possible, given that I start work at 7:30AM. Depending on location, I could do a 5:30PM interview. This is going to be very tricky to handle, especially since, in my experience, most of the interviews I've been on last over two hours.
Yes, early or late, it is very tricky. You should definitely inform your interviewer of your situation and see how flexible they are. I was just wondering how lucky others were in getting evening or weekend interviews scheduled. Hopefully, because most of these companies are small, they are a little less rigid about time. Keep your fingers crossed for me! A lot of companies are willing to meet with you in the evening, and even on the weekends (at least the small companies I have interviewed with). I got my last job offer on a Saturday, from an interview I had at 7:45 on a Wednesday evening, had one interview on a Saturday morning, and another person want me to come in on a Saturday morning. I went in Monday morning, instead. I normally am interviewing with the owner/CEO of the company, and they are sometimes just too busy to interview during the day. Since I am unemployed, most companies normally give me the interviews during the day, which is no problem for me. I' d rather they save the later ones for people who are working. All you can do is ask. If they really want to meet with you, chances are they will make allowances. Good luck!!! | |
