Salary Range question

Hello! When asked about salary range can you say mid 40's?  or do you have to give a range, something like mid 40's to 50's?

Thanks!!

I consulted a salary calculater and determined the average amount that employees in my field are reporting that they are paid. I then placed that average in a salary range.

For example: $WW.00 - $ZZ.00 per hour or $26,500 - $32,500 per year. I will also only bring this up if the interviewer asks me specifically, the advertisement states that they would like salary requests submitted or the advertisement has already indicated a range and my range falls into it. Generally what happens is, my range is slightly below what the interviewer ultimately states is what they would offer. Or they would offer in the upper part of my range.

You should never answer the salary range question during an interview instead say you'd rather hear more about the position first...but if the recruiter is pushy flip the question around and say what would a person of my background and experience expect to make.
