Drowning in Sales

Hello everyone, im new to this "blog" concept; thought you all could help. I have about 7 years in sales. I WANT OUT!!! I tried changing my resume several different ways to portray some other qualities and the only companies that seem to call me are car dealers and banks...ME, SALE CARS?- NEGATIVE! I just don' t know what to do at this point because everything depicts sales even when it doesn' t say it. I even had an interview with a few companies and they forwarded my resume and interview profile to the sales department.lol Any advice?

What type of resume are you using? The chronological or the functional style? I' m in the same boat you are...trying to make a career change out of the field of insurance claims into something along the lines of a technical writing/investigative/data analysis position. If you haven' t done a functional resume, you will have to take stock of the skills you have obtained to this point and emphasize the ones that will apply to the position you are seeking. You then list your most pertinent past employers (don' t list them all if it' s an extensive list). By using this type of resume you show a potential employer who you are and what you have to offer rather than where you' ve been. For a career changer, the functional resume will force the interviewer to emphasize and question your skills and keep the focus on you. You can use the opportunities that come up in the interview to show how you can utilize your acquired skills in the new position rather than what you thought of your last several employers, what you did there, etc.

NOT ALL SALES JOBS ARE CREATED EQUAL.  I HATED SALES AND TRIED TO GET OUT, EVEN BECAME A COP BUT THAT DIDN' T WORK OUT.  I THEN GOT A SALES ACCOUNT MANAGER JOB AND LOVE IT.  WHAT IS IT YOU HATE ABOUT SALES?  COLD CALLING, REJECTION, COMMISSION CHECKS?  I SUGGEST YOU FIND OUT WHAT GOT YOU INTO SALES, WHAT YOU LIKE AND DISLIKE AND SEE WHAT KIND OF SALES JOB YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY ENJOY (OR INDUSTRY - THAT' S CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TOO).  IF YOU JUST WANT OUT DO WHAT THE PERSON JUST ADVISED WHICH IS GREAT!  GO WITH A FUNCTIONAL RESUME, THEN NETWORK YOUR BUT OFF!  DON' T WAIT FOR THE JOBS OR EVEN THE INTERVIEWS COME TO YOU!  GOOD LUCK.

You have to realize one thing first - 90% of all jobs are somehow related to the sales field! YOU  have to know all of the qualities that you possess first, business wise, and make sure they are stated in you' re resume and this can guide you to more upper level positions.  Let them know who you are and what you can do for them!
