Answer Advice Needed!

I' m wondering what I should say when I' m asked why I am looking for a new job and why I want to leave my current company....

Usually I say that I' ve been there for 5 years now and I wanted to explore other opportunities because I no longer feel challenged... which is true

But the real honest answer is that my company has been going through a series of layoffs and I know my job will be elimiated soon and I wanted to be proactive...

Should I tell the interviewer that I believe my job is going to be eliminated???

Tell them what you have been telling them. That you have gone as far as you can in your present company and you are looking to for something to further challenge you and help you grow.

I don' t think that I would mention that you are in danger of losing your job anyway. It might send an inaccurate message to the interviewer that you present company doesn' t feel you can perform the job any longer. The interviewer may not look past that at the other fact that layoffs have been occurring on a regular basis where you presently work due to financial strains or whatever. In an interviewer' s mind, they may see  you as the employee who needs to be layed off because others do the job so much better.
