Patience GrasshopperI have to echo SBSeager - I' m a hiring manager who has watched his wife going though a job hunt, and the reality is that you can' t read too much into a short lack of response. Yes - 3 weeks is short. I have a staff of 15 direct reports and drive 3 major pieces of work along with the 40 projects my team staffs - and even when I' ve been looking for 1-2 new staffers there have been entire weeks where I can' t get to the resumes my recruiters push my way. Even when I find that perfect looking gem, there' s scheduling challenges and other internal hoops that sometimes need to be finessed before we reach out to candidates. It has nothing to do with how perfect a fit you might be and everything to do with the work in front of the hiring manager today. Resending a resume - especially a hard copy - is not a bad idea. Using Linked In to get the skinny is even better - particularly if you can find the name of the hiring manager to put on the envelope (my wife has had great results that way!). But the key is to keep your pipeline flowing and then be ready if they call. I always remind job hunters that when I have an open slot it' s really a problem I need to solve, and I' ll look for the best match of skill and attitude. Hang in there! | |
