ConfidenceI sent my resume couple of weeks ago. I reply to most of the accounting position in the paper. Someone called me to come in for interview. I looked at the add again. The position is somewhat over my league. It is not because i dont know how to do it, but it' s because I do not have the experience. How can I prepare myself for the interview? I like sticking my two cents in to subjects that I also have some concern about in my own interviews. Is the reason you don' t have the experience because they want, for example, 5 years using a particular accounting software and you have only 4 years, then I wouldn' t say that is a big deal. They can surely see that you are one year shy of that experience level. If they are saying, for another example, that they require experience and knowledge in quick books and your experience and knowledge is in some other accounting software. (I don' t know accounting so I don' t know any other program), then you may consider boning up on the software that company uses. Look in the internet and read up on it. Then, if they ask you any questions regarding how it is used and which application would be best for inputting payroll, you can answer knowledgeably. If they notice on your resume that you don' t have experience with that particular software, let them know that while you don' t have any practical experience, you are well versed in its applications. I have come to realize that some companies put in their job advertisements that they require certain levels of experience or ask for particular qualifications, but they will entertain the idea of training the person who has knowledge of what they require but experience in another type of application. | |
