Relocating within Ca

ok so I just finished my bachelor degree in IT and I am trying to find a job in San Diego from about 500 miles away in Fresno. I have applied to numerious positions on all sorts of websites getting only four phone interviews probably out of a 100 applications. My resume is very good and professionally done but I haven't had to interview for a position in 6 years so when I get on the phone unless I am prepared I sound unfamiliar with their questions. However I haven't even gotten that many interviews so my questions is, should I move down there first and then do my job search? I already have a friend done there who I will be staying with and some money, but it is a risk none the less. I am just wondering if my resume is being passed up purely based on my current address.
It is likely that is the case. I live in Orange County and LA hiring managers are concerned about my commute. I don't know what the job supply and demand is like in San Diego so I can not really say.

Have you considered testing the theory out by using a friend's address? If you have enough savings and are set on getting a job in the area, then yeah a move would help, but the truth is you never know how long it will take before you land a job. You should prepare to take a just pay the bills job in the mean time.

Just wanted to mention, you do know that the cost of living is a LOT higher in San Diego than in Fresno right?
