Local Radio Show topic : certification
I just heard a local radio show do a topic on certification, specifically ASE certified auto technicians. The radio show host mentioned how relatively easy it was for him to work on his own vehicle as well as other vehicles in and around the neighborhood. The person ( caller or in-studio guest, I don't know ) makes a claim like a warning that if something isn't calibrated, tested with equipment, or installed the correct way, something almost always is likely to occur. It almost sounded as if the person was discouraging the host and others from working on their own vehicles. That sounds pretty pompus to me. Most people take their cars to autobody repair shops, but the problem is most people complain about either being overcharged, under-serviced, or both. Why is there a stigma about foreign cars ( vs. american ) being better and more efficient? There's less, if at all any, need for repair. And I suspect the lion's share of that stigma has to do with american auto service people being complete frauds ( or part of the american auto-manufacturing conspiracy ). I just wrote an e-mail saying exactly that. Listen, wether your a certified technician or not, you're just as prone to making mistakes as anyone else. Certified auto technicians can still be sued by a customer if the car is not properly repaired and an accident results. That should have been made clear.
Listen, wether your a certified technician or not, you're just as prone to making mistakes I've found that certifications are meaningless. When I worked in information technology, I met some people with certifications and can't say that I was impressed. As a matter of fact, I have seen some of these people make huge blunders. Even in medicine, they say go for the doctor who is board certified, but some of the most incompetent doctors are certified.
Wow. You think someone sounds "pompus?" Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
there is a different between a certified tech and a master certified tech the master doesn't see cars as Honda ,Toyota ,Chevy , or ford he sees them all the same just laid out differently most technicians strive for speed not accuracy ,so they can put food on the table , that's how the corporations have made it , a good tech almost never blunders cause he checks , rechecks and when its all done he goes over it in his head again (numbers to chew on 500,000 certified tech nation wide only 8400 master certified and falling ) and I'm one of them I gave up speed long time ago and went for accuracy , if you fix it right they be back but much later , as the corporations wood say lets get a hillbilly a certification and keep those customers coming back every three weeks just to let you know i have over 200k in tools and i paid for em all not the company currently looking for a job been told im over qualified or my fasination with speed and 10 points on my liscense are holding me back so i am being humbled to a &^$#$@# job at a local mc d s till my points drop sorry just ranting look every year i have to learn a new model or make it changes so much | |
