DP, all politicians are liars but the only ones that ever lied to me were Democrats. My family was historically Democrats so when I was a senior in high school, I thought contacting a family friend who was a Democratic state senator would help me secure financing to college. WRONG! He did not help me at all BUT the Democrats helped illegal aliens and other people on welfare get benefits!

Around that time, President Carter was getting hit hard by recession. I jumped shipped and joined the Republican Party and heavily supported Ronald W. Reagan for President. I went out on my time to elect a politician whom I knew would help me. Reagan did indeed help provide me with financing college. I became a devout Republican at that time.

But when Reagan left office, the Republican party just wasn't the same any more. They, like the Democrats, did not keep their promises. I then bailed and became an Independent.
