Door to door scam
OK, this seems to happen every year in the Spring or Summer. Some young minority shows up at my door selling magazines or artwork. They claim to be with some organization that helps young adults turn their life aound. They have some sort of identification, etc. They have a song and a dance. I would love to help out some kids or young adults (whether they are minorities or not), but I have read/heard year after year that many times these kids are either running a scam or the people trucking them around are running a scam and they don't even know it. So I always tell them that and say no. Another thing that is odd is that many times they claim to have travelled hundreds or thousands of miles to come to my supposedly "successful" neighborhood (it is really just middle middle-income). It just seems silly they'd go to such lengths. It just sounds like a scam. I wish if these organizations are for real they'd send us fliers a couple weeks before they show up so we can verify them. If they can send kids hundreds or thousands of miles then they can afford fliers. Are others seeing this sort of thing this time of year???
What's the name of the organization?
NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE DOOR TO DOOR PEOPLE!!! Today none of the legitimate organizations do this. Many times the kids working these scams are totally unaware what they are involved in. Over time they get abused and used. Some have even gotten raped or killed. These companies also take advantage of minorities and the poor. They instruct them to try to guilt people into giving them money, but then they don't give them anything back. The best way to stop this abuse is to NEVER buy anything from any door-to-door sales people. Once people are educated and the money goes away, then these creeps will go away and stop abusing kids and the poor. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/17/AR2005081700684.html http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/tmarkg/magzn.shtm http://www.travelingsalescrews.info/ http://www.travelingsalescrews.info/when%20crime%20knocks.html
I always say no thank you. 99.99% are a scam. Always answer the door with a shotgun. They will never be back ... neither will the pesky Witnesses and Mormans. | |
