Organic Grocery StoreI made my first foray in a major chain health food grocery store for the first time this Saturday. I needed potato flour for a cookie recipe I've been wanting to try. In the first place they had HUGE shopping carts that did not fit very well in the aisles especially the produce department. My next thought was if all these people are eating all this organic and "health" food why don't they look healthier? In the entire crowded store I saw maybe three or four people who I would call phyically fit. And on another note - rude - why do people just leave their huge honking cart in the middle of the aisle and wander around? (I get up early on Sunday and go to Publix, the entire trip including driving time an 45 minutes to an hour - so as not to put up with kids and crowds in the grocery stores.) I found my flour, had my foot stomped on by a rude pre teen who wasn't watching where she was going and got the heck out of there - never to darken their door step again! Publix has organic and at a better price and I can probably order the flour on line next time! PS and for the coo de grassee I bought natural lays potato chips with sea salt - I haven't eaten chips in a while, I have to say those were some of the best chips! (I find the irony amusing!) That's interesting! Hopefully all the people who were in the store that did not look healthy were there to get healthy. :) I don't live in a big enough city to have a large health food store, but we have a couple small stores downtown on main street. I haven't been in either one yet. I can usually find what I need in the local grocery stores. Stores are getting more and more organic products. I think the issue of leaving carts in the middle of the aisle is something that happens in all grocery stores. That's why I go at "off times" when I go grocery shopping. But then I have two grocery stores within a couple miles of my apartment. BTW, I like the Natural Lays potato chips, too. I don't eat chips much, but I've been partial lately to Lays kettle chips. They're not natural but they taste great and aren't as heavy on salt as the other brands. Gotta watch my salt intake.
Your mistake was going to a chain store. I've found local mom-and-pop stores to have better quality and better customer service. Prices might not always be better, the money isn't the only thing. I agree with you about the chips! Those natural chips with sea salt, while not the healthiest thing in the world, are the best tasting. WB | |
