Made a major mistake

I think I really messed up.  I just started a new job for a public accounting firm because it was closer to home,  pays more and I thought was a chance to grow.  So, I am almost one week thru the job and have learned the following:  the partners yell at each other and at employees. There is no company handbook because there were fights over it, so apparently employees just call off if they don't want to deal and people threaten to quit.  Many clients reports are backlogged  months.  The staff is unprofessional and engaged in backstabbing.  The place is overcrowed- no cubes, and desks set mere inches from other desks, and papers everywhere.
I did not have a desk to sit at until Wednesday - I started Monday. Turns out people were argueing over where I should sit because people have personality issues.  Today, the receptionist broke the deposit stamp and rather than hand endorse checks, printed out labels and placed them on the checks.   There is just no plan as to what I will be doing, no computer set up, etc.  A long time employee told me that the department I am in is a revolving door and that even though she has been there seven years, her computer still has the name of a previous employee and she is not listed on the company phone list.  I was also told that a lot of the long term clients are older people who are at retirement and the new accounts are "crap".    My boss told me today, that they will get me on track next week by having me catch up accounts that are several months behind.  I was working on compiling gas station receipts for a new client and the person setting up the info found that the owner would shift money between accounts.  She was told that instead of doing inter-company accounts, to just put the difference in owner's equity.  I am not sure if that is the correct thing to do, or not.

I am really frustrated and believe I made a major mistake. So, where do I go from here?  I  want to work in a professional environent, not some place with a bunch of  petty people.   I am absolutely concerned about the fact that the partners fight and yell at employees and each other, and I am worried about what appears to be incompetence.  I am only seeking a part-time position where I can use my general accounting skills and I am not interested in a  high powered position.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can get out of this mess?

Thanks,
KJ

I think you already know what to do.  Get the heck out of there -who knows what else you might find.  I would think their repuation is well known in inner circles and will not help you down the road.  Chalk it up to experience and at the next place try to speak with current and past employees to get the lay of the land.
Thanks!  Next question is - do I tread water until something comes up?  I left my old job on good terms and my former boss mentioned I could come back, if I wasn't happy- if I found out before they filled my position.   Not sure what to do.  I don't necessary feel good going backwards.... but, I feel I do need to get out of where I am now.
If you need the money badly either stay where you are until something else comes up or ask for your old job back. If you ask for your old job back and then quit again, I would consider that a burned bridge though.

If it is that bad, call your former boss and ask if they've filled it!  If they say yes, you're not worse off and if they say no, it is still open, grab it!

Cos,

Run.

Thanks for the advice.   I think I will tread water where I am, and start  looking like crazy.  I left the old job because of the long drive, and because of low wage increases.  They did not make me a counter offer when I left, so I think it would be a mistake for me to go backward and risk burning a bridge, rather than figuring I goofed,  keep a good reference and go forward elsewhere.
