Lame Employee Seekers

Hello I'm new to Monster but very old to the working world. Please forgive me if I'm venting in a forum where I shouldn't be. I posted my resume on Monster last week and have had several hits. Unfortunately, the responses have been so lame that I'm at a loss. Three of them asked me to forward my resume (duh.....) two of them wanted to meet with me in California for positions near San Diego, my resume clearly states that I will not relocate. Are these people stupid or just searching on our titles? Would any of you want to work for a company that has failed to research your qualifications with publicly provided material? Veteran monsters, please help me. Is this a common experience or am I just a jerk magnet?

REL VW

its very common for me to get those contacts as well

All good agencies ask for a Word formatted resume in an attachment, even though Monster provides them a copy.  I have seen them at agencies.  Many times they suck.  Would you send a resume to a client, that sucks?  Also this is one way they can have your resume in their computer system.

I would not worry about other agencies calling, especially out of state.  They need a body now and can't find anyone.  Most will understand, but have them look for you in your area anyway, really I have had some call back.

You have to decide if it makes sense to go to their office.  Many times it is a waste of gas and time.  I have several assignments, where I never been to the agency or saw the recruiter.  All done by email, phone and maybe FAX.

First, you are not a jerk magnet.  You are experiencing what many of us experience.

Yes many employers, and most especially agencies search on key words and don't go beyond that.  No matter how dilegent we are in completing our profiles they simply don't read what we have said - it is seems to be beyond their ability.

Finally you will always be asked to resend your resume.  Keep it up to date and beautifully formatted.  I usually keep two or three different ones handy.
