Job Hunting is sooo frustrating!!!
This job hunt thing really does stink. It's so time consuming and drawn out. It's just painful how slow the process happens. Almost 3 months of interviewing and the employer drops me saying over qualified. Next job is just under 2 months worth of interviews and then I'm under qualified. This is completely frustrating. I know they are just giving me a BS answer for not getting the job. Why can't they at least be honest with me????? I'm a big boy I can take it. It might actually help me as well. Thank you for letting me rant. Have a good day.
I too have always asked for HONEST feedback on why I wasnt considered further - I feel like if we take the time to go interview then if they dont want us what is the harm in telling us flat out what, if anything, we did wrong ?
I know that there are a LOT of problems with agencies, but I do find that this is one advantage they have. A hiring manager is much more likely to give the agency honest feedback than they are to give it to the candidate. I've gotten some really good advice this way in fact. Fortunately for me, I work in a field where there are some really good industry-specific agencies.
Excellent point. I remember being in a very hostile work environment, and I was quietly looking elsewhere. What I didn't know at the time was that I was so stressed out, and my negativity was coming across in interviews. I got that feedback from the 'cruiter I was working with, so it was helpful to me. True, I didn't do the smartest thing and I quit my job, and I don't condone that for anyone, but the lack of stress that I didn't have was worth it, and I came across as the right candidate for the job. Good Luck, Jackace! You will find something. Hang in there! Peace, TG
Have you posted your resume to the Resume forum to be critiqued? If not, try it, there are so many people willing to show you how to handle problems on a resume, such as being overqualified. Post your resume, leaving off all personal data, and ask someone to give you an honest opinion. Also, instead of applying to a large number of companies at one time, (If that is what you've been doing.) Pick a couple of companies and do some research, find out who the hiring manager is and send your resume to that person. Check benefits, company policies, etc. Looking for a job is a full time job in and of itself, hang in there, tb:)
I feel your pain.
Sometimes the real reason for not getting the job, is something the employer can't or doesn't want to admit to a recruiter or to the candidate. Maybe they gave the job to someone less qualified, for political reasons. Or management suddenly pulled the plug or made a big change in the position, after HR moved heaven and earth to find top-notch candidates. Or the hiring manager picked another candidate for stupid reasons.
