What do you think about thisSo my annoying co-worker brought in a gun to work. I heard him fiddling around with something in his cube, and then I heard his manager walk by. His manager said "What is THAT?" He was caught by surprise and stammered "It's a ... um ... er ... it's a toy, it's a toy. It's a plastic glock... it shoots rubber pellets." I was surprised to hear his manager say "That's cool!" and then he walked away. OK, so it's a BB gun, and if his manager is OK with it, then I guess it's OK. Not sure why he would be bringing it in to work and playing with it at his desk though.
good grief, does your company not have a 'no weapons policy'? In my company this would be a termination - toy or not.
No kidding-I concur. That really crossed the line. I would have been compelled to say something such as, "Um, you know that's against company policy." What a clueless idiot. TG
Go straight to your supervisor and the two of you go to HR. Chances are your supervisor (if he has any sense) will contact security before the word "gun" leaves your mouth. With the state of the world today and the high incidents of terrorist alerts and shootings happening within workplaces, high schools and colleges, this is a dangerous situation. Toy or not, your coworker is making a statement and if his supervisor wasn't so stupid the statement would have been taken care of.
I can't believe people believe your fake stories.
What's so fake about it? And what other "stories" do you think are fake? You don't think people make various kinds of noises at work? You don't think there are some slackers in the workforce? You don't think people flirt at work? That person would have been instantly fired and arrested for bringing a weapon to work at my company. A weapon is a weapon even if it is a BB gun or pellet gun. Doesn't that idiot know police officers have shot and sometimes killed suspects who pointed a BB gun at them? What was he thinking? At a company I used to work for we evacuated an entire building (over 800 people) PLUS the building next door when some idiot sent his buddy a toy hand grenade at work. The secretary opened the box and that was that. You should definitely let HR know what happened. This is not something to mess with. At best it shows a remarkable lack of judgement on his part and the supervisors. Tess
Well this is kind of like how people say that you should never date a co-worker. Because what happens if it doesn't work out? Then you still have to see the person and it will be really awkward and maybe stressful. I looked in the company handbook, and they prohibit illegal drugs, alcohol, smoking, and any form of harassment. There is no mention of weapons. So what if I mention this to somebody, and the guy doesn't get fired? Perhaps they would just give him a warning. There is also a chance that they would tell him that I told them. And even if they don't, he'll know it was one of the few people who sit around him. So if he doesn't get fired, then it could become an awkward and stressful work environment for me, and I don't want to risk that. Well, if it doesn't work out then the guy will probably take out his workplace rage on you. That could solve a number of problems because once he does that- he'll definitely get fired.
