I guess the game is over.
I recently applied to a job opportunity not far from my house. It had not much promise, a relatively old, crusty and run down manufacturing plant I'm assuming is one of the last dinosaur industrires left in existance. It was a job opportunity I had the misfortune of assuming was legitimate. I applied online, like I normally do. I got a timely response via e-mail. I got a timely offer for an inteview. The interview went better than expected, almost to the point I thought I was sure hire. But of course, as I expected, nothing has yet happened. I'll be talking to other people for the job advertised, but I'd like to consider you for something else using the skills on your resume' . I've heard that before, as part of a blow off routine. But I seriously took this one as genuine, because unlike the last time that was said to me, they canceled the interview before I even got there. Call me next week. Ok, so yesterday I did, and as expected, I didn't get a call back, not then when I called around the afternoon time, or in any of the later hours up until 6pm, 7pm, or 8pm when I know that plant closes. ( being is that I live in the same area to know ) Now this employer was a guy I had somewhat of a sour feeling from the get go. In initial e-mail contacts, he didn't or seemed as if he flat out wouldn't call me by phone. I even went so much as to walk down to the plant for the interview and saw the office empty - presumably for some sort of lunch hour. I grabbed a piece of paper on someone's desk and wrote a missed you note again leaving my phone number. All later that day into the night, I got no phone call back, the next morning, the response again came only by e-mail for a let's try meeting again set up which I did eventually do. Something smells fishy here, and I don't like it. I gave this guy all the opportunity in the world to do the right thing and hire me, I've mentioned in past threads about this situation as an employer who finally did all that I ask for, and still I feel I'm getting shafted. _____________________________________________________________________________ So where do I go from here? I'm deciding it's a done deal, this is just another idiot employer who has his head up his butt cheeks, and for some reason doesn't have the guts, or the integrity to place one simple phone call back to tell me I'm not hired. A real lack of professionalism, regardless of any excuses they might think up. If you guess as I do, no, I doubt he'll even e-mail. I get the feeling most employers are fast becomming a society of chicken sh*ts. Too wimpy to tell someone they've hired someone else. They just leave a person hanging. How often have I read this same scenario play out with other members who post on here? Too often. And it's happened to me, so for all you screwball cocounut heads that like to defend the generic employer through the eyes of your own wonderful employer, I say shut your mouth, because you have no idea what's going on and in all liklihood never will.
- Thanks very much. Bummer you did not get a job, xttwo. So when are you going to move on? It's not worth it to dwell on one employer when there are good employers out there.
I am continuing to job search, if you were smart you would already be aware of that. I only mention this circumstance as a common courtesy by keeping some people abreast of my situation.
Do you really think anyone is all that interested? All you write about is negative. Look at your last message with all the bold words -- your anger and bitterness show clearly through. The way I see it is that you were spending all that time writing about a now past situation (and continue to write about it now) and it is taking away valuable time that you have to actually move forward to something else new and better.
As I may have said before, I can multi-task, not only am I conversing with people from seperate message board discussion forums, I'm also performing job searches and online-applications. Three hours a day, six days a week ( Mon. - Sat. ) minus holidays when the library is closed, or days the library computer network is down. I also said before I know that supposedly something else new and better opportunity is out there, and I'll eventually find it, or one of these days I'll win that big lottery jackpot ( $100,000+ ). I'll take whichever is the first to come along.
Just a reminder, this is the "VENT" board so venting should be expected and will not be all rainbows and bunnyrabbits.
Amen to that.
and you dont work someplace and you took something off of someones DESK ? How did you even get IN ? I would have had you arrested and certainly not hired ! But on another note not all offers of "keeping you in mind for another position" are blow offs - I had a place that did that and went with a different gal tell me that I was possibly being considered for something else - I thought the same thing UNTIL I got a call tw days later for another interview and I got a job offer from that one and I stayed at the company for 8 years
In the initial message, I've only had two situations such as how I describe. Me going in to interview for a job and being ( supposedly ) referred for another. In both cases the end-result was nothing to show for it. How many more instances am I supposed to go through before it becomes a positive example so's not to make me come in here to a Vent forum and mention it as just another example of getting blown off? 5, 10, 25, 500? Tell me, what's the magic number?
Venting doesn't change a thing. Turning around and finding out the reason why you believe you are getting blown off is the thing to do. Did you ever stop to think that it may be the way you are presenting yourself? Or perhaps it's the way you are communicating? Obviously, something is preventing you from landing a job and it is not necessarily the employer. Instead of venting and telling everyone here they don't know what they talking about and calling them names, etc., perhaps you may want to consider asking the ones who have positive examples to share how they did it so you can learn from that. | |
