Who is most qualified

Okay, I work as a Govt contractor for my position for the Govt.....I "Fulltime" opening with the Govt just opened up....however, I think I DO have competition with a specific individual.

He has more experience doing what he's doing, considering I work on a different kind of project than HE does, different equipment, software applications, etc.  However, I can claim veteran's preference, (he's not a vet).

The work I do is very SIMILAR in nature to his, however, a different flavor.  Also, he's been working there about as long as I have.

Think I might stand a chance with Veteran's preference?

See, The Personnel Dept with the Govt base their selection process on points...a rating system if you will.....so just because the BOSS thinks the guy's qualified, doesn't mean personnel will send his application on his way.  Sometimes the qualified ones might not get an interview, due to lack of points.

Ok, so, because you're a Vet, you have more points?

If that's the case, then it sounds like you might be a shoe in wink(-based on what you posted).

I hope you get it!

All The Best,

TG

Well you certainly won't know until you try.  In my experience, once you pass all the tests and get the right number of points, you go on to a list.  Then there are different rules by locaton, department etc. as to what they can do with the list.  Sometimes they have to take the top person on the list no matter what, sometimes they can choose anyone in the top 3 or 10 or whatever.

Hi MonsterReader,

I'll tell you what I think! Because you are a Vet, you deserve that job, go for it! You have the skills, go get that job! Best of luck!

tb:)

What do you have to lose by applying? Either you get the job, or you don't. But unless you apply, you won't have a chance.

I applied...hopefully go from "Contractor" to "Perm" :-)

Anyone here done this?
