Training ReimbursementI started a job on 8/8/06 with an employer in Worcester, MA and I was sent for software training in 9/13/06 for 4 days. I left this employer on 7/6/07. I was owed 130 hrs in time, and my x employer says he does not owe this because of an agreement that I signed stating I would have to pay back benefits and training if I left the company within one year. Yes I know I should have thought about this before I signed it, but I wanted to know what he can Legally ask me to repay. Cost of training I understand including car rental and Motel, but what about the 4 days of hourly pay? Can he include the 5 holidays I was paid while employed with him? Should I ask for a receipt for this cost so I can deduct it on my taxes as non-reimbursed cost related to work?

I would suggest that you ask him for an itemization of charges for the training you received. Is it possible that the amount he owed you for 130 hours exceeded class fees and related expenses? Also, if you were entitled to vacation pay, did you receive that. The law is different in each state, logon to the The Dept of Labor in your state. You signed a document related only to training for a specified amount of time, is that correct? He can only ask you to pay what it cost him to send you for training, or what is specified in the contract you signed. I would definitely ask for a receipt marked paid in full, and make him account for every penny. Best if luck to you! tb:) | |
