This is the wrong way to advertise.
I was doing another job search today when I saw this by an employer : Duties include, but are not limited to eXtraordinary customer service and phone skills Answering busy multiple phone lines Dispatching reservations made to Chauffeurs and making sure they know their schedule. MUST be able to multitask computer experience necessary Receiving and booking reservation We are a very close-knit company, we have a fantastic crew, and we're looking for someone to become part of our family. Do not apply if you are simply looking for a job. This is a commitment to an extraordianary company. We offer 25% off health care with Harvard Pilgrim 401K with a matching 3% of your salary _______________________________________________________________________________ This is what I wrote back in an e-mail response : I came across your advertisement and would have liked to apply I did indeed read, understand and appreciate the idication you left I certainly have the computer skills and customer service experience There is nothing wrong with getting quality work from someone so long This is 2007. Wether you're an employer or a prospective applicant, you take
I hate when employers put a line in the ad that says ... so and so need not apply or something similar to that. Like you, I don't apply even though I have the qualifications because I don't want to work for someone who comes across like that.
Remember the "Serenity Prayer"? If you are really serious about finding a job (and I find that doubtful every time you post here), you would concentrate on the things you can do something about and not on the things you can't.
So I guess I missed what was wrong with this job posting. Was it that it wasn't full-time? Lets see so they want someone to work part time and for that they will still offer the opportunity to save into a 401K and provide 3% matching, well that is something that most employers don't do, shame on them. Add to this that for part-time work you also will have access to healthcare, of course you will have to pay for this but they employer will contribute to it as well; again shame on them for providing benefits. That is just miserable of the employer. Bad employer treating your employees well. So ole X here wants to tell them that he is to good to work the hours and he dresses them down with a poorly written letter. Bet they are glad that he did this! Now they understand that they are not good enough for ole unemployed X. Shall we take this apart for him? I came across your advertisement and would have liked to apply I did indeed read, understand and appreciate the I certainly have the computer skills and customer service experience There is nothing wrong with getting quality work from someone so long This is 2007. Thanks for allowing me to pass along that little piece of information to you. So oh yeah I am betting that employer is rolling in the aisles passing that gem of a note to his other employees and shaking his head all at the same time. Thinking to himself, WTF; here I am offering a decent salary, decent working conditions, benefits - and this idiot has the nerve to send me a letter telling me that he doesn't want the job? So what someone else will ! Someone with a work ethic. Someone who wants to work. Someone who understands the value of what I am offering and is willing to give value in return. Someone who needs a paycheck and some benefits. Someone who understands the value of that extra 3% in savings. Someone who needs some flexibility in hours. Someone who maybe needs a second job to supplement their income. But this fool, who can't even form a well constructed sentence or use spell checker thinks that he can tell me about business? I think not. Likely he is unemployed and living in someones basement. The ad is straight forward and tells you exactly what they are looking for. What more do you want in an ad? As LValDean stated, most part-time jobs don't give any benefits whatsoever. To get health insurance, 401k and paid vacation with a part-time job is a sign of a reputable company. The ad does not say or imply that they are looking for someone to stay forever. They, along with most employers, are going to want someone who makes a commitment to the job and stays for a length of time. Most employers don't want someone who is going to stay 6 months, a year or two and then leave. A good employee is going to be one who makes such a commitment and stays with the company for a time. That's what they mean by "Do not apply if you are simply looking for a job." With all the spelling errors in your e-mail, I'm sure the employer had a hoot with it. The "little bit of information" they learned from it was that they now know one person they did not want to hire, someone who obviously didn't fit the bill of the good employee they were looking for. You blew it again, buddy. I have to say something to you at this point, xttwo, before you keep making more foolish blunders out of frustration and boredom and perhaps depression: First of all, are you for real? Are you making up all this stuff about yourself and did you really and truly send such an outrageous email to a potential employer? I hope not. In case you have, do not ever again send such an email. It accomplished absolutely nothing and provided a wonderful source of entertainment and ridicule for employees in that office. That made it a "masterpiece" and your best piece of creative writing to date! Take another look at every one of PL, Tess, and LValDean's messages to you on about three different message threads by now (perhaps more). Their advice and suggestions are the only sane advice and suggestions you will ever get from anyone who is actually playing with a full deck and all of it costs you nothing; it's FREE! Goodbye and good luck!
Bunzo xttwo, next time you write a reply to a job posting like that, at least use spell check or have somebody proofread it. It was really bad.
I also didn't find anything wrong with the job posting. After reading your somewhat incoherent letter, I didn't fully understand your objections either. It makes me wonder why you took the trouble to criticize an employer interested in hiring quality employees. Could it be that you are NOT a quality employee and feel threatened by an employer with actual expectations?
You are not old enough to afford be that arrogant. You are not experienced enough for the dimestore swagger. Pull your head out. If you want to play with us big kids, get some game. TG
