Career Tips

been 6 weeks

I have been out of work for almost 6 weeks now. I have no money coming in and all I hear from employers is that they have chosen someone else. The state of Ohio SUCKS right now when it comes to jobs. If anyone else on here is from Southern Ohio please tell me if you are having the same problem. All I see is jobs that want a BS or BA does work expierence count for anything anymore?

I feel your pain.  I am from Ohio as well and can't find work either.   I have tons of experience but still not getting me anywhere.  I really believe there is no work here, or too many people looking and not enough jobs to go around.  I gave up looking and applied for UI.  Wish me luck in getting it, as I have been turned down twice before.

Your not alone!!!!!

Jds002, I hope you applied for UI benefits! Hang in there, we've all been where you are now. Lookingagain, why are you being denied UI benefits? Don't mean to be nosey, just concerned!

tb:)

6 weeks??? is NOTHING!!

try 6 MONTHS!!! YES - MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!

and student loans come due Sept.

you know how embarrasing it is when your 51? I can't even go to concerts.

and in NYC - high cost of mass transit , living etc. Lucky I live with my 82 yr old mother who is SUPPORTING me.

Leslie - combo age discrimination/ career changer- blue collar to office job

You can get additional deferrment on your student loans!

In answer to your question, I was turned down in the past because I left the job.  My reasons for leaving the job, was due to mandatory overtime hours and stress, and UI declined me.

I am looking for a part time job now and trying to take some on line refresher courses from home to improve my skills to help me better secure employment.

Wish me luck with UI for the third time!

Thanks
